Climate change

Reading a fellow bloggers blog got me started on climate change and global warming with this article he linked in there. I think I can briefly get to the heart of my feelings about climate change.

Climate change is happening. I'm not thrilled about it. I don't think I can help stop it even though I take care of the world in my immediate surroundings and drive an above average fuel-efficient car, recycle and grow some of my own food. It's just that with urbanites burning through resources for their simple pleasures, celebrities burning up millions of gallons of jet fuel to make appearances where they don't belong and China literally eating through the earth's resources in numbers I can't imagine... I get a little lost. So why try?

Blog fish

In case you haven't noticed, if you scroll down to the bottom of my screen, you'll find 4 fish in a fake aquarium. It's not too super spruced up or anything, but they're down there. Click in the aquarium to feed them; they like it.

Finally

Finally, the elections are over. I'm so happy to drive into campus in the mornings and not have to listen to politicians bash each other because their adviser told them it would be the best option for victory. Dennis Hyundai even broadcast an ad about how thankful they were for the election being over. It's probably sad that Amanda and I both voted for one candidate on Tuesday night specifically because he didn't bash his opponent. Frankly, I didn't even know who he was running against, but I knew his name when I saw it on the ballet.

In my opinion, one of the worst mudslingers in the entire election won his spot for governor of the state of Ohio: Kasich. I'm not gonna lie, I didn't vote for him. Strickland did so much better of a job directly answering questions while Kasich beat around the bush all the time. I had more trust in Strickland's ability to keep plugging away like he had been, and our state had survived 4 years of democratic rule without being too shabby in this economic downturn so I was pretty sure we could make it another 4. I guess now we have to wait and see if Kasich really meant anything he was trying to say during the debates and press releases.

This was also the first time that I've gotten to vote in the November elections in person since my first year of voting. It was weird, but I guess not much has changed. The electronic machines are pretty efficient at this point and I'm just glad that I was able to come in and cast my vote.

For those of you who didn't bother to vote yesterday, no excuses. You can't complain for the next year or two, or even four in the case of governor (the one person I voted for that didn't win) because you didn't bother to exercise your right to vote. Deal with it.

Pat Tiberi had me worried there for a bit, but as they said in his article today, he wasn't ahead last time when the first votes were tallied either. And he swept Licking and his portion of Delaware counties strongly, putting Paula Brooks out of reach at the end. Both people claim to be great supporters of 4-H, but I can personally tell you who bothers to show up to fairs and take interest in the goings-on of their constituents, and that person rightfully won re-election.

News update

In other news, the Giants have won the World Series. Frankly, I stopped caring once the Reds and Tigers were out, and the Yankees had lost. Nothing personal against the Yankees, I just think you're one step above the University of Michigan. Congrats to the Yankees.

My fantasy football team continues to roll on a recovery graph from the courses of Brett Favre in the beginning of the season. Sure, he was setting records every day he played but at some time isn't it worth getting out before you're just a broken dream instead of a legend?

Google Buzz... I knew I didn't like it, and I was irritated as anyone when it was automatically put into my Google account without me knowing how to use it over control what it did. Let alone the fact that it popped up every 5 minutes to tell me about its new-found self-importance. Good riddance. $8.5 million is nothing to Google.

Today is a big day in the world of politics. As the United States pulls another no-show on voting (a privilege that many people would die or are dying to have and protect), a huge chunk of our nation's government is up for election. The results tonight will have a significant impact on our future so vote. Otherwise, don't complain.

Meanwhile, the U.K and France are working out a deal for their mutual protection. I think this is really good for 2 such small countries. Except, how did it get worked out that France would be the location given for weapon testing? I don't dare speculate that they might've gotten the short straw by a bit?

And in Tanzania, an albino was elected to parliament. I doubt this would be a big deal if witches weren't hoping they could've had his body parts for their dark work.

Charlie Sheen's getting divorced again. I can't say I blame her for anything other than the stupidity to get married in the first place.

And my finale for today is the couple that sold Obama's letter to them. I can't say I blame them but man, if I got a letter from the President, I would keep it if I possibly could. It must've been awesome to get that in the mail.

Falling

Falling always seems be the most amazing type of accident to survive. The forces of gravity pulling you into an acceleration to your death is pretty terrible to imagine. I can think of a few images in my head that will always be there, scarred, burned into my mind. So to lighten up your day, here's some stories of people who fell, and lived to tell about it. Feel free to share your own in the comments.

I'll start with the story that inspired this blog for me - a baby that fell in Paris and was luckily caught by a passing doctor. Apparently she bounced on the awning above him and his boy had spotted her falling so he was in the right place to catch her afterward.

Of course, there are links to links to links in articles such as these so you can follow keywords and read about lots of people who have fallen, but some of whom weren't quite as lucky (just a warning). Then there is the guy who was window cleaning and fell 47 stories. The hard work of many medical staff led to his ability to function again and one day reach out and touch his nurse's face. I can't imagine being the wife who then told him she was his wife and he should be touching her, not the nurse's face. Couldn't she just be glad he was using his arm?

Speaking of crazy, I saved the best for last. I had to look this up because I've seen it before but it belonged in this group, so here again is the story of the man in Russia who jumped out the window. Once landed 5 stories down, he returned to his place just to find out how angry his wife was. So he jumped again. Really? The second time his wife made him go to the hospital.
