Neither of those have anything to do with each other to be honest, except for the fact that they are both open tabs in my browser right now. Studying for my non-ruminant nutrition, there was a question on the quiz about which enzyme is the only enzyme not to come from the pancreas. The answer is enteropeptidase which is secreted by the crypts of Lieberkühn. I had to post that title because it sounds like the sequel to a dark fantasy movie. But in all seriousness, the pancreas has to be the most underappreciated organ in our body. The pancreas does practically a bit of everything including buffering your intestine and secreting enzymes, insulin and other hormones. And yet, if you hear someone talking about organs they'll talk about their heart, their liver, maybe their kidneys, and then their appendix. How often does someone talk about their pancreas?
Grooveshark involves a totally different train of thought, but if you haven't seen it yet, it's a great way to listen to artists whom you haven't heard, without having to sit through Pandora's advertisements. My brother recommended it to me as a way to listen to his new artist pick, Doug Paisley. There's also advanced membership options, and such, but if I want to control my music and shuffle, etc., I'll just buy it. This was just my way to hear it first and not wait through ads to listen.
As I wait for someone else to sign up for the Pelotonia with me so that I can start soliciting businesses, I just wanted to repost my link. Please share the link, even if you can't donate.

Just sitting
This morning we had harvest for 30 pigs here on campus. While this overlapped with my 11 am class that I would've been occupied by otherwise, it also took up a lot of my morning considering that we started at 6.00 am this morning. I like getting up early in the morning and my time working odd hours with Marcus was amazing. But what you have to do in that case is find a time for a warm afternoon catnap. What I don't like is the long day without any kind of rest. My new plan for this afternoon was to take a nap, but my position as a TA in a 2.30 recitation won out and I will be headed to the class shortly. If any of you expect to find me this evening, you will find me back here at Animal Sciences helping host the Fayette County 4-H group as they come in for a carcass show regarding the animals they had us harvest on Tuesday.
Speaking of 2 harvests in the same week I am sharply reminded of something my dad said a couple of years ago. I often have these sudden and short-lived urges to work out and build up my muscles. Exercise in the form of walking, running, basketball and biking are things that I have no trouble picking up at any time or getting into the habit of doing. However, in the case of actual muscle building, I usually don't last a week. Well, a couple of years ago Dad made the comment that some of the strongest people arre those that work in a slaughter facility or as butchers. He claimed this was because of the workload and how it was also built around a week so that different muscle exercise was performed each day.
Now that I am aching all over from the second harvest in a week, I am realizing just how right he was. The work that we do, even when I'm only moving carcasses down the rail (pushing or pulling weight) is very taxing and I am not in the kind of shape that I should be in to do this twice in a week. Tuesday was difficult, but the repeat on Thursday has pushed my muscles to a point where they complain to me when I try to drink a bottle of water. This is hard work, and good work. When I was asked today by one of the grad students today if this was what I thought I'd be doing in my Masters program, I said "Yes." I am learning new things every day and starting to fit into the work so that I don't feel uncomfortably out of place every day now. It's good to be challenged again, both physically and mentally.
Although my commentary on the following links will be limited, they are totally worth the viewing. Check them out and have a great day!
First off, if you know anything about Google maps, you've probably tried creeping on your house and seeing what you were doing when they took the image for their website. If you haven't, just take my word for it that they are real photos and I can even tell when they update them because the model or position of cars will change at our house. Well, apparently in Brazil, the images were banned after this happened.

Hungary continues to pollute the earth, even as we're still trying to sort out who we really are going to get away with scapegoating for the BP spill.
Finally, in case you haven't heard it often enough in recent news, here's the Daily Show's take on the non-witch GOP candidate.
I love Pandora radio and my ACDC channel has been one of the best choices I've made regarding my homework and project productivity.

BBC News
I was surfing my latest headlines and today was definitely a winner. There's lots of links to choose from here so go ahead and scroll through the ones that appeal to you the most. I realize that I could've put more links to news about the war, or environmental disasters or murders or political debates, but frankly I'm tired of hearing about the war from people who have no idea what's really going on. I'm tired of hearing about the oil spills and other earth messes because just like George Carlin (skilled, sailor of a comedian), I'm tired of hearing about people wanting to save the planet. Almost everyone who really says they want to help the planet turn around and don't act on it. It's not that I don't care about the planet, I just want to really help it instead of reading a bunch of forest killing books about how some journalist Ph.D. thinks they're going to fix the problem. So let's be amused by the news...
While we're talking about renewable energy, check out this long shot. Less energy potential than the solar panel, and look how well that one's really taken root compared with other energy options.
This fire tornado is truly apocalypse-like and awe-inspiring.
Absolute props to this hero in China who's on China's 'got talent' show playing the piano with his feet. No offense to the Chinese government but is the video real? And why did you allow his parents to keep him if he has no military potential for your country?
Leave it to Ohio to get into the top-viewed news on BBC, and for this? What really gets me is the comment at the end that most of the interactions between the 2 groups have been friendly, despite the fact that the preachers were supposedly preaching hate.
Just in case you wondered what our solution is to the ever-constant problem of helicopter crashes in combat and training, it would appear that we're just going to pull the human crews out of them. Yep, Lockheed Martin is planning to begin testing unmanned helicopters in Afghanistan soon.
And then there's research that tobacco plants actually signal/call for other bugs to come in an eat their predators. Very awesome.
Finally, maybe this ad from my Pandora will play smoother on better internet than what I'm using on campus right now, but I thought this was a creative way to advertise against drunk driving.
