Nothing much to do...

I'm people watching, facebooking, and gmailing in the computer lab. I figured at the worst, that deserved a post. At the best, this post might turn into something decent before I'm done with it.

Oh. Something of interest. Yesterday I came into the computer lab with Gail and recovered all of my files from 17 3.5" floppy drives. Thankfully MSU still has those drives, so I took advantage of the fact and got something done. I was able to recover multiple high school science reports, pictures, and the like. Only one thing was unrecoverable: my bitmap precioushorse drawing. Well, not mine persay, but it was sent to me. Sad day, but I think I can deal. What I wanted to see was the colors in it, because I remember it being sent to me on a day in highschool when I was watching MSU in the NCAA Tournament, and I feel like the colors festively celebrated that. Anyhow, 6 years later, I'm sitting in the computer lab at MSU just burning time.

Well, either time for a nap or a bike-ride. Much as I'd prefer the former, I know it'll never happen. I'm off to my car to drive back in to campus for our 1st ever official PST meeting. Out of 800+ registered members, I call that only 20 will show up.

Snowblahs...

So again, I walked through snow to class. It's been an immensely long day and I still have to bike back to Gail's house in order to drive home. Although I'm dreading it, I'm just about out of here. Anyhow, today I saw Dr. Banks in the hallway, and he shook his head at me when he saw how covered in snow and wet I was. This evening when he saw me again, he praised me for my improvement in appearance. All I had to say to him was that if my kids didn't appreciate education, I'd sure make sure they did. I've definitely set my example today, lol.

Speaking of Dr. Banks, I got the email this evening to let us know that we tied for 2nd and lost to 3rd place in the Academic Quadrathalon. I'm disappointed, yes, but honestly, I saw it coming, and I'll deal. It's cool. And besides, I like Tasha and Joel, so I'm happy for them too.

I've really been having trouble making it to class on time. I don't know what it is but regardless of what time I set my alarms for and how many I set, there just seems to be no way of making it to class on time at 8 am. At least it's really hard to fall asleep at lab, eh?

So we hitched up the teams this week. That was just great until I had to deal with Buck and Bob and their nonsense. They walked all over the place, including through a big snow drift. And once they do that there's just no way of getting them back in line. I guess I'm not holding the lines tightly enough, probably because of my fuzzy gloves. As it warms up, I would expect that problem to be solved.

Biking rules

And yes while I do actually mean that it's a good time to bike, what I'm really trying to say here is that people need to understand what to do around bikes...

A) Bikes move faster than pedestrians. To pedestrians, this means that you need to stay out of the way of bikes and plan for them to be moving faster than you are walking. Aka, don't walk out in front of bikes expecting them to stop on a dime. Better yet, try now to go jumping out in front of one because you're in a hurry. And to cars, this means that bikes will be appearing faster in crosswalks than pedestrians. Apart from random foreigners, bikes are most likely to suddenly appear crossing the road. My simple suggestion: look at both sides of the sidewalk before blitzing through an crossing just because that way maybe you'll be less likely to plaster a biker.

B) Bikes are like vehicles on the road. While I'll admit that most bikers are not respectful of road rules, this does not mean that as a motorized vehicle drive you are permitted to just run them off the road. However, the opposite side of the spectrum is true too. People biking on the road realize there are cars there and are capable of riding straight and not being hit by them. When passing a biker, it is absolutely not necessary to drive on the left side of the road into oncoming traffic just to make sure you don't hit a biker.

On another note, can I just add that the girl beside me is underwear shopping online in the Anthony Hall computer lab. Awkward...
